New Hampshire State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-life a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
d) Other or expanded principles:

1) Budget Stabilization:Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing New Hampshire's budget.

No a) Do you support the creation of a state income tax in New Hampshire?
b) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
c) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
d) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
Each of the above would need to be carefully examined to determine the cost effectiveness. I'm sure cuts can be made in many areas, but to say that across the board cuts in those areas should be made without more information is not responsible.
No a) Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
No b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
Yes d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
No e) Do you support imposing penalties on state legislators who fail to attend legislative sessions?
I have not accepted any campaign contributions from any group or individuals. I certainly agree that too much money is spent on campaigning and lobbying. The solution is not to limit the rights of people to freely form associations or groups to give and promote their voices. The solution is for people to elect officials who don't make government such a good investment for big donors and lobbyists.
No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
No c) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Our current laws have left the cannabis market largely in the hands of criminals, who often do not care if they sell to children. The biggest gateway to the use of other drugs is the criminal element which sells between $100 to $200 million worth of it each year in NH. The best way to protect children is to take the market away from criminals who sell to them, and to use any state revenue from its sale to help fund education, prevention and treatment.
No a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
No d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
No e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
No f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of New Hampshire?
The best way to raise wages is through a strong economy and low unemployment. Artificially raising the minimum wage can cause people to lose entry level jobs. Reduced hours, decreased benefits and loss of on the job training are other negative consequences of manipulating a free market. Predominantly, minority and youth unemployment are negatively affected most by these arbitrary wage laws.
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in New Hampshire?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
No c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from New Hampshire high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
Charter Schools in New Hampshire are public schools and they are often able to educate students at a lower cost.
No a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
I fully support the use of renewable energy, and I am against any corporate subsidies for not only fossil fuel companies, but all corporate subsidies.
No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
No d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
We are consistently in the top 3 safest states in the country. Last year there were 18 homicides in New Hampshire. Eleven were committed using a firearm, and 4 of those were committed by police (justifiably shooting a suspect). That leaves 7 murders involving a firearm. Our laws are sufficient.
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through New Hampshire's health care programs?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
f) Other or expanded principles:
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in New Hampshire's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in New Hampshire's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support greater efforts by New Hampshire state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
All people should be treated equally. On a philosophical level, I do not think that it is helpful to create multiple classes of protected citizens while exclude others. Everyone deserves equal protections regardless of status. What consenting adults do in private or who they chose to love is none of my business. The current pay equity laws should be enforced when violations are reported.
Keeping our economy strong to attract and retain good paying jobs. Removing barriers to help improve our mental heath system and apply evidence based practices to help combat the problems associated with substance use and he opioid crisis. Protecting individual liberty and rights. I'm running to help maximize freedom and opportunity for all.
